Research Description

Helmut Mueller’s interests in behavioral ecology and the development of behavior are currently focused on (1) the evolution of reversed sexual dimorphism (female larger) in hawks, owls and other predatory birds, (2) the development of predator recognition in young birds, and (3) strategies for survival in captured prey, including the function of distress screams in birds. His past research and the research of his students has spanned a wide variety of topics including competion in avian communities, coevolution of plants and pollinators, and migration and orientation of birds and mammals.
