Julie Korda Holsclaw and Jeff Sekelsky published a paper titled “Annealing of Complementary DNA Sequences During Double-Strand Break Repair in Drosophila Is Mediated by the Ortholog of SMARCAL1” in Genetics. This paper describes a previously unappreciated role for the Marcal1 protein in a critical step in DNA repair. Mutations in human SMARCAL1 cause a hereditary genome instability disorder.
