Faculty Positions in Biological Sciences

The UNC-Chapel Hill Department of Biology is seeking a Tenure-track Assistant Professor, as part of an expansion initiative. We seek an individual with expertise in the area defined below, and we are especially interested in a scientist who seeks opportunities for inter- and cross-disciplinary research in a vibrant and broad Biology Department and larger research community.

The Department of Biology consists of over 50 faculty engaged in basic and interdisciplinary research in the life sciences, within the department and between other departments and schools at UNC. iBGS supports faculty who hold appointments in both the College of Arts and Sciences and the School of Medicine and who apply model experimental systems for discovery-based research that impacts human disease. The Department of Cell Biology and Physiology in the School of Medicine, ranked 2nd in the nation in NIH funding, provides a robust environment for investigation of cellular behaviors within a physiological context. UNC faculty, postdocs and graduate students also routinely interact with colleagues at nearby Duke and North Carolina State Universities, as well as other institutions in Research Triangle Park. The quality of life in North Carolina’s Triangle area is consistently rated among the highest in the nation. Tenure-track Assistant Professor

Professor in Molecular Neurobiology

The Department of Biology (http://www.bio.unc.edu), Integrated Program for Biological and Genome Sciences (iBGS) (http://ibgs.web.unc.edu/) and the Department of Cell Biology and Physiology (http://www.med.unc.edu/cellbiophysio) invites applications for a faculty position at the tenure-track Assistant Professor level. The position is supported by the combined resources of the College of Arts and Sciences and the School of Medicine. The potential start date is July 1, 2017.

All candidates must have earned a Ph.D. or equivalent degree. Applicants should have a successful record of excellence and productivity in research, and a desire to teach undergraduate and graduate students.

We seek applicants studying fundamental aspects of neuroscience, including molecular and cellular neuroscience, systems and behavioral neuroscience, and medical disorders of the nervous system. We are especially interested in researchers taking advantage of non-mammalian experimental organisms, although those using any experimental organism or system that can provide new functional insights at the molecular and cellular level are encouraged to apply.
